April Fools!
Last Monday I went to the student center at USU to look at the job board, which I do occasionally. I have by far the most difficult schedule to work around which makes me largely unappealing to employers. I'm very aware of this, and so I usually don't expect to find a job that would be applicable to me. Very few times I have found a few, and by the time I call they have usually found somebody else, or it just falls through for one reason or another. Well, last Monday I found a listing for a tutor of a young elementary aged student. I was excited about this because FINALLY there was something that just may work around my schedule. So, I called. Sunday afternoon I had an interview. The mother told me more about this boy; he was going into 5th grade (my specialty, seriously! I love this age and have done most of my practicums at this level). He had some physical impairments which forced him to be in a power wheelchair. He also has some speech problems, but with time you can learn to understand him. Because of the physical impairments he has missed a lot of school, which put him at a second grade reading level and behind in math as well. He spent only about an hour a day in the general education classroom, the rest in resource. The job would pay well, compensate me for my travel, work around my schedule, and would only last throughout the summer. The best part about it is that I would be able to use seriously everything I had just learned in my special education classes....the CBA's the direct instruction the manipulatives....EVERTHING. Well, the mom called me on Sunday night and told me that her and her husband decided to pick me (over a girl who was already a teacher) mainly because of my special education background. I was stoked!! Yesterday I went to the education library and checked out tons of materials to use. Then I went to talk to my old professor to ask him for some advice. I spent a lot of time just coming up with the first day's lesson (which would have been tonight).Well, when I got back I had a message on my phone. My phone didn't even ring, just went straight to voicemail! It was the lady calling to inform me that because I couldn't tutor until after 2:30, they'd changed their mind and hired someone else who would be able to teach in the mornings. Sweet. I guess I'll go return all that stuff I checked out from the library.

I'm sorry Lala, that sucks! I know how it is when you cant find a job that will work around your school schedule, that's how I was. You'll find one soon!
That sucks! Well, those people don't know what they're missing out on!!!!!! Do you want Emrie to call and talk to them, because she can vouch for how amazing you are with children!!! I would say to keep looking for a job like that. Maybe you could even advertise. With all you have to offer, it's a shame not to be helping some kid out somewhere as well as making some sweet moolah for yourself. There's got to be someone that's looking for an afternoon tutor. Too bad you don't live in SLC, I would seriously hire you for a tutor for Em...maybe she would be more willing to do her homework for you than me as she completely worships the ground you walk on!
P.S. LOVE the New Moon countdown!!! Woot Woot! We already rented a theater for the 21st, but I'm for sure going the 20th at midnight again, too. Are you up for it!?
oh my gosh. that's horrible. you should take all your books, ring the doorbell, when they open it, throw the books at their face and run off. YEAH. THATS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO.
i think i second leslie's notion. all those who agree say "i".
hey girl!
in answer to your question, i have no idea how i did all of that! it was so hard & honestly probably took me 3 hours. you have to edit your html in your layout section, which is nuts & impossible. but i just googled around until i found instructions & then i tried (AND FAILED) like 10 times before it worked. i screwed with my blog until i liked it. it was hard. i wish i could be more help. good luck!
oh man, I'm sorry! Big mistake on their part!
Lauren I use an awesome website called Picnik, its like an easier version of photoshop! So for my header I saw a header on one of the links I have for blog backgrounds (I think it was from My Style Backgrounds). But I didnt like the whole header so I just cropped it down to the yellow part, added a border and our name! Its super easy! Then I just added it like an image on the layout screen of my blog in the header section. Its way easy...to learn how to make it 3 column like Jessica's go to the link on my blog called SJH Blog Design and on the side it will have a link that will help. Call me if you need help with anything, but just play around with stuff! You can download free paper (I have those links too) and you can do fun stuff with Picnik.com!
i love you. i miss you. if you were with me i would hug you.
